Two more schools are offering scholarships for Birmingham-Southern College students after the school announced its closure earlier this week.

The Mississippi University for Women in Columbus and Auburn University Montgomery are both offering scholarships for students impacted by the closure.

The University of Alabama system said Wednesday it would offer expedited transfers for current BSC students.

Mississippi University for Women will have six semesters of award eligibility for students with 24-47 hours at time of admission and four semesters for students with 48 or more hours.

The following scholarships are available based on the transfer’s G.P.A.:

  • Presidential Scholarship (3.8–4.0 transferable GPA): $5,500.00 per year
  • Whitfield Scholarship (3.6–3.79 transferable GPA): $4,500.00 per year
  • Franklin Scholarship (3.3-3.59 transferable GPA): $3,000.00 per year
  • Kincannon Scholarship (2.75–3.29 transferable GPA): $2,000.00 per year

The release said that tuition for full-time students is currently $4,046 per semester.

“I am saddened by the closure of Birmingham Southern College, a liberal arts college with 168 years of history,” wrote President Nora Miller in a statement. “It’s a sad day for their students, faculty, staff, alumni and the city of Birmingham.”

The school offers free applications and has no deadlines for spring admissions or scholarships, according to the Thursday news release.

BSC students who transfer to AUM may be eligible for scholarships up to $4,000 per year, according to a Thursday news release from the school. Estimated tuition at AUM is $10,170 a year for Alabama residents and $21,714 a year for non-Alabama residents.

Students are encouraged to visit AUM on Transfer Day on Apr. 12 or schedule a campus visit.

The school set up a page where students can learn more about scholarships and begin the application process: https://www.aum.edu/bsctransfer/.
